Last April 19, students and teachers of Society of Boys' Centre Hui Chung Sing Memorial School and the D-STEM team gathered to kick off the first of our two day workshop. The students and faculty were very excited and keen to start the workshop, and engaged in ideation and brainstorming activities.

Students were also given hands-on experience in using sewing machines, bundling POF textiles and using a loom in integrating POF yarn into weave structures to provide handworking skills for the prototyping stage. For many students, it was their first time to use POF textiles, and many were inspired by the illuminative effects that the textile could offer for their projects.

Various groups brainstormed various AI solutions that tackled real-life challenges such as a jacket that indicates a audience members temperature at a show, a shoe that detects posture for soccer training and a hat that detects heart rate and visually alerts nearby people if the wearer is feeling exhausted and at risk of stroke.

The students then presented their prototypes and ideas to Claire Miller of the RCA, who commented on the impressive work of the students.
